Sessions #10 & 11 March 16th
So, we have had a few days off and just gotten back into the swing of things.... been playing lots, inventing new games, and trying to NOT concentrate everything on jumping. Gilley seemed more motivated :) I think things look good in this vid? No going under the bar, trying to delay my click a bit more, seems happy to jump for me, etc.
A bit later this afternoon, I decided to send her over a few jumps with me standing. I think I need to deliver the treat more quickly (I didn't do many reps on purpose - wanted to see what I need to do better before I practice things incorrectly).

I LIKE that she ends wanting more. You can tell. Her face is like...."that's it????" Very nice!
ReplyDeleteRemember, LM said that before you stand, you should do the throwing the treat part of the book. So, do that first before graduating to standing.
Nothing really wrong with your standing but yes, get treat down there sooner.
Also, when you are kneeling.....keep your hands lower. Instead of them at your tummy, put them at your sides, towards your knees.
LOOKS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for reminders - here's why I have hands at my tummy for this session - she was going under the bar - I can't have them low or she will focus on my hands and slip underneath. Any suggestions for how to avoid this? I don't want to keep them there long, but I also don't want to raise them too high and take her attention away from where her nose needs to be. Hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI am reading & trying to follow Step 3 - I guess I see what you mean. I am still "placing" the treat close to the bar, not so much tossing. Will do that kneeling then before graduating to a stand again. However, I am NOT supposed to be varying the location of the treat yet, correct? Just still tossing at the base of the jump, yes?
Back to Step 3!
Nevermind, I just read Step 4, should've read it completely before attempting to stand. Will do! Thanks for catching that before I did more!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have a suggestion if she is looking at your hands that much, and it is affecting her performance. Remove them. Put them behind your back. Delaying her reward as you bring your hand around should not upset her much now that she really understands the game. You can put them low and behind you, sort of on your booty cheeks to help facilitate the treat delivery.
